notes 2024-02-21

    February 21st, 2024

Working today on: Care and Repair of Search Engines (lecture and workshop at UCLA Department of Information Studies on 3/1)

As part of that I’m continuing to work on tooling & resources for unscrambling search:

    • Searchevals
      • add more evals (mostly working through adding my own)
      • finish MVP of Searchevals.extract (a userscript for support building searcheval data objects on Twitter)
    • Searchjunct
      • TODO: move to Next.js and ship
    • SearchRights.org
      • TODO: update, move out of Jekyll

I responded to a question from Willie Agnew on Twitter:

gen ai people–what are the positive uses? what are the positive uses that justify the massive investments, disruptions, and harms? I’m genuinely curious

One company’s dominance over how we search has been massively harmful—shaping everything from how we wonder and doubt to how we seek audiences or recognition. Plenty of risk and uncertainty, but I’m very excited to see gen ai helping people recognize search is more than googling.

    • 2024-02-21 12:07:36 I need to update my Auto-Button-Click Double-check Evaluation for Funsies or Gnoses to work on the gemini subdomain.
    • 2024-02-21 12:09:59 I’m curious to build a simple userscript to show the text fragment strings on YouChat links. This is related to my Searchwhence project.
